Mold Clean-up Procedures
These are the steps for performing a typical mold remediation:
1. Find the source of the water intrusion an solve the problem of water entering the area and determine the effected area to be treated.
2. Set up barriers to separate the affected area from the rest of the home or building so that the mold spores are not spread.
3. Set up air scrubbers to begin removing the mold spores from the air and negative air machines so that negative pressure is created inside the contained area.
4. Remove all molded drywall, baseboards, drywall, and carpets also it is important to mention that there will usually be more mold inside of a wall and behind baseboards then is visible as mold grows faster inside walls.
5. All ceilings, walls, floors, salvaged building materials and the barriers and equipment inside the contaminated area must be cleaned, hepa vacuumed, cleaned again, hepa vacuumed then cleaned once more. This is called a hepa sandwich in industry terms.
6. All building materials inside the contaminated area are encapsulated
7. The barrier remains in place until the area passes a final clearance test from an industrial hygienist or environmental engineer.
8. Barrier is removed and reconstruction can begin.
